Delhi metro inaugurate first ever solar power plant at a parking lot
 

A workshop on climate change was organized by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at the Metro Bhawan which found that the Metro Rail Systems are the more energy efficient transport available in the world today as per details below:-

The workshop was attended by the Chief Secretary of Delhi, Shri K.K.Sharma and Shri D.S Mishra, Additional Secretary, UD, MoUD apart from Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC.

 

A new Solar Plant established at the Huda City Centre Metro Station with a generation capacity of 100 KWP was also inaugurated by Shri D.S. Mishra, Additional Secretary, UD, MoUD on the occasion, while a special Sustainability report was released by the Chief Secretary of Delhi Also.

 

The workshop organized today deliberated on a range of issues pertaining to the development of climate resilient initiatives in the Urban transportation sector. 

 

Additional Information

In total, DMRC has so far commissioned solar power facilities with generation capacity of 2.8 MWp with plants at Dwarka Sector 21, Anand Vihar, Pragati Maidan, Metro Enclave, Yamuna bank station, Yamuna bank depot, ITO as well as the Metro stations of the Badarpur Escorts Mujesar (Faridabad) corridor.

DMRC is aiming to achieve solar power facilities with generation capacity up to 20 MWp by the end of 2017. DMRC is trying to utilize the space available at its stations, depots and residential areas to install solar power facilities. Apart from this solar plant at the HUDA City Centres parking lot, DMRC is also installing solar power facilities on the foot over bridges of all stations on the Badarpur Escorts Mujesar corridor.

 

DMRC takes a number of initiatives to promote eco-friendly technologies and operations. It is a carbon neutral system and the average carbon dioxide (CO2) saved per passenger per trip in the Delhi Metro is 144 gm.
